share... but NO opera house in Germany would EVER cut away the last few bars of "Tristan und Isolde" (with the "Tristan chord" dissolving into pure B major after Isolde dies) as we see in this movie! Never ever would anybody in Germany violate Wagners music like that! And this is just one of many examples in portraying Germany totally wrong during this movie ...

I thought Karajan was a bit young in 1940 when this opera scene takes place (he looks definitely too old in the movie scene, that's how he looked in the sixties). Thought it must rather have been Wilhelm Furtwaengler conducting "Tristan und Isolde" than karajan, but Wikipedia didn't really disclose this.
Does anybody know?
