One of my favorites

The world's changing: from VCR to DVD... I was watching some old tapes last night, including Shining Through: how could I forget this beauty!!!

"Shining Through" was one of my favorite movies too.

I saw with a date at the theatre and we loved it.
I rented it on VHS and saw it again with a different someone and we loved it too.

My present girl never saw it, so I decided to introduce it to her and told her its one of my favorite romances of all time. I'm a horror fanatic, so I don't have too many romance faves. I told her this one did it for me and that she will love the ending.

She hated it. I don't know why.

Too bad

Glad to see I'm not alone and others liked it too.

really a low rating (6.0) for a great movie like this

Unforgettable and one of my favorites. Also one of the few movies based on a novel which are even better than the novel.

reply

I wonder why it received such a low rating. I've seen it three times now and I still love it. It has everything a person could want in a movie<

reply

Yes, it has the best actors at that time, great movie locations, great constumes and suspense with no end. For me it has all the ingredients for a perfect movie. If I can watch a film over and over again, it has to be good.

This is also one of my favorites, along with "Age of Innocence" Wynona Ryder, Michelle Pfeiffer and Daniel Day Lewis. I don't like German-type or war movies but I love this one. I am also surprise it got a low rating. And "The Mist" has a higher rating than this movie.. It boggles the mind. :)

It has everything, Suspense, Romance, Drama, History.. I was at the edge of my seat near the ending.

I feel sorry for people who consciously look for flaws in films instead of relaxing in their seats and simply taking it in. Perhaps those who have given SHINING THROUGH bad reviews are seasoned critiques who know no better than to seek the negatives of every movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie for all it's worth. It is far from perfect but it sure is engaging and most entertaining.

I love this movie, too. I'm a huge history buff & spot errors in facts pretty quick. So what? I look past them if the film is entertaining & this one was. Melanie & Michael & Liam were all great in their roles.

Watch a documentary if you only want facts!

This film is great, I have nothing bad to say about it.. one of my favorites too :)

This is also.one of my favorites. I love WW II movies. I don't care if the uniforms were wrong or the medals. Or the opera was wrong and all those factual errors. It is intriguing and suspenseful and the love story is top rate. I don't think Melanie is the best actress but thought she was great in this role. Michael Douglas is always good and attractive with great sex appeal. Ending is improbable....yes. but that is what makes these type of action/love stories great. The USO dance hall scene was my favorite because of the music. I cry every time I see it. The book was good (I read it way before the movie) and think the book and the most ie each have their good points. Never miss a chance to see it.

I agree! The sets, costumes, cinematography, the way the story unfolds, I really like this film a lot.

The actors are the best of their time. Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith are second generation Hollywood royalty, Joely Richardson is of the Richardson family, very famous actors going back several generations in British theatre, and Liam Neeson was Joely's brother in law. Not to mention John Gielgid and a phemomenal supporting cast.

I found myself weeping at the end, so I would have to say it's an effective film. And I just plain enjoyed it.

It's running in the Indie channel so maybe they will play it again. Excellent film!
