Black + White fave
Woody Allen loves black and white movies, and "Shadows and Fog" (1992) is his best black and white movie.
John Cusack and Mia Farrow are terrific.
I fully agree. The use of black and white is masterful here to the point that the images appear three-dimensional. Just when you think you've grasped a shot, something pops up out of the background. Every frame of this film would make a great still.
John Cusack and Mia Farrow gave standout performances, but as with all of Woody's films, no one struck a false note here. Credit also goes to John Malkovich, Kathy Bates, Lily Tomlin, Donald Pleasance, Jodie Foster ... well, everyone, really!
