Woody's character as misogynist anti-hero

Perhaps it's a testament to his genius in film and possibly in real life; his character left his bride at the alter to screw her sister in a closet, and in his future relationship with a "cold fish" (psychoanalyze that!), he's clearly attracted to Mia's character as more than a friend, and when confronted with easy paid sex with Jodi Foster's character he can't perform - yet we still root for him throughout the film as a cowardly everyman victim.
