Great film but...

Just why is it called Scent of a Woman? It gave me the impression that it's all about romance which is not true.

Slade talks about how one of the things he wants most is to wake up with a beautiful woman beside him. I believe the line is, "That I could wake up in the morning and she'd still be there; the smell of her, all funky and warm. I finally gave up on it."

Scent of a Woman means something you've given up on, even though you could still have it if you tried hard enough. It's sort of a romance in the sense of wanting something mystical.

I also thought the same thing as the OP. The scent of a woman has a nasty tone to it. but I think Colonel Slade would have been a much better title.

I think the point is that Frank is a complete pig but that the only part of his character that could be even considered slightly redeeming is that, while he can be uncouth about them from time to time, he appears to have a genuine passion for women and his passions are stirred by the smell of their perfume since he can't see their face. He's extremely courteous about Daphne, very dapper to Donna and very kind to the teacher at the end of the movie.

That's what I got from it, also the fact that it's an Italian movie remake, made me think this was going to be a romantic drama. Was surprised in a good way.
