While all decades have their great films, there was something special about the 90's that made so many classic films like this one.

Dumb statement, every era has great movies, you're just nostalgic.

I can make a huge list of movies made from 2000 to today that are better than this one.

The 1990's was, indeed, a good decade for quality movies. Here's some of my favorites:

A Few Good Men (1992)
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
Scent of a Woman (1992)
Groundhog Day (1993)
Shadowlands (1993)
Last of the Dogmen (1995)
The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Independence Day (1996)
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Meet Joe Black (1998)
Starship Troopers (1997)
Titanic (1997)
The Truman Show (1998)

But then here's some from the 2000's (not too big a drop-off):

Finding Forrester (2000)
Here on Earth (2000)
The Bourne Movies(2002, 2004, 2007)
A Walk to Remember (2002)
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
My Life Without Me (2003)
Hidalgo (2004)
The Italian Job (2003)
The Last Samurai (2003)
Troy (2004)
Serenity (2005)
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
Juno (2007)
Avatar (2009)

Clearly our life experiences have gone down two very different paths. If you were shown favorites from the 1990's and 2000's from 10 people randomly selected, you'd likely get 10 lists that were very different from each other. That doesn't make them good or bad, just something that brought entertainment and enjoyment to each of them.

I've got to say, while I've thought the 90s was a tad overrated as a decade for film, I've found myself re-visiting several movies from that decade and realized it was better than I thought. But the 90s is A MILLION TIMES BETTER than the 00s! A MILLION!

They made a slight attempt with Silver Linings but different arch, the odd mentor/pupil relationship for me always makes for the best stories.
