Didn't care for the ending [SPOILERS]

The perfect ending would have been that, having sown more wild oats than a league of wild oat farmers, he's now ready to settle down with Jade. Jade, having mastered the erotic arts, is now enough for any man.

That's not the ending we got. I guess that sin can't go unpunished in a movie, on either side of the Pacific. The ending was in fact such a downer that it spoiled, for me at least, any humor or erotic charge from the rest of the film.

Much of this is gorgeously made, and some parts seem indistinguishable from some Westerner's "Oriental fantasy." Opulent stonework, beautiful naked women all so eager to please, calligraphy, Buddhist monks, silk everywhere. Change the ending, and it's the perfect Chinese soft-core sex comedy.
