The Believer vs Romper Stomper vs American History X
anybody seen all three? for my money, i think The Believer is the most personal and emotional look at the subject matter. Gosling vs Crowe vs Norton is a hard choice though.

shareBeing an Aussie I would have to say Romper, It was one of the only films I liked Crowe in, and it really shows what Australia looks like, A bloody crap hole.
Please ship me to Europe, thx.

i hope you made it to europe, mate
I would say AHX and then Romper stomper, the Believer
The ranking of the films:
1) American History X
2) The Believer
3) Romper Stomper
The same ranking applies for the performances of the lead actors.
This should be a 4-way battle, however, with the other contestant being This is England. I have yet to see it, however, so can't comment.
Cheers.

1. American History X
2. Romper Stomper
I didn't really rate The Believer.
Collective fantasism.
I think Romper Stomper is the best of the lot, but they're all good… I'd give the acting honours to Gosling.

I've seen the three. Is the believer about a jew boy turned skinhead?
AHX is the best of all three but the palm d'or for the skinhead gang leader goes to young Crowe.

I've only seen Romper Stomper and AHX, but I would definitely say Romper Stomper is the best. AHX is good, but it seems a little pretentious and heavy handed. Romper Stomper is more realistic and impartial. Plus the soundtrack is better. And Crowe is better than Norton who - while having given a technically great performance - is harder to believe as an alpha skinhead.
shareThere's just as much pretentiousness in Romper Stomper. Gratuitous violence, maybe there is less of it but it's still unrealistic. The character arcs are quite realistic though and Crowe makes for a very believable youth gang leader. Also he wasn't as much a celebrity as an actor at the time, at least he wasn't that well known in the northern hemisphere at the time.

Yes, it was loosely based on the real life Daniel Burros, who was a Jewish racist skinhead, he commited suicide when he was "found out"
