Lewis trying to be as a new man and forget about being a Nerd

okay so in this movie he ditched the glasses, grew his hair and leave a pony tail, and try to cover his "nerd laugh" with some excusable reason (*coughing* "Wetting the back of my head") because he was ashamed of who he was. Is that how he wanted his life to be ahead? He still has some nerd in him.
