How did they get home?

The tunnel was the only way off that place without a plane. They blew the tunnel. I'm guessing if the boy survived the explosion from just around the corner of a s$&t load of Challengmite, then the way out must have been spared as well. It appears the volcano and the Belgian were the only ones stopped by the explosives.
