THIS MOVIE NEEDS A DVD RELEASE!!!

Dan O'Bannon was Pinback in Dark Star. He wrote the screenplay for Alien and Total Recall. He has directed two films - Return of the Living Dead, and The Resurrected, which is currently not available on DVD, anywhere, in any country. :(

It's an absolute shame you can't get ahold of The Resurected. It's probably the best Lovecraftian film I've seen.

I couldn't agree with omega44 more! This is one of the most overlooked horror films to come out in the '90s or at all. Both Chris Sarandon & John Terry give excellent performances, Sarandon's may even top his turn as the vampire in Fright Night. It is an absolute crime that this film is not available on DVD. Lets get this sucker released people. You can do your part!

First you can sign this petition...
http://www.petitiononline.com/TRDVD/petition.html

Second you can write to Lions Gate which owns the DVD rights and beg for a DVD release...

Lions Gate Entertainment

If everyone helps out we'll get this DVD released sooner than later!

I've bought the dvd two years ago at Best Buy. I remember back in the late 90's, I went to a video store to see if they can order me the movie on VHS. A week later, the video store called me to let me know the movie was not available.

If anybody owns the book, "Lurker In The Lobby: A Guide To The Cinema Of H.P. Lovecraft," under The Resurrected entry, it's stated that Dan O'Bannon still has his original work print, then titled, THE ANCESTOR, and it gives an overview of what scenes are different, and it sounds like THE RESURRECTED is an even better movie in this unseen version. Too bad Lionsgate doesn't put that one out. Before O'Bannon died I had always hoped he would have tried to get it out there to the public.

reply

So many years later and this still not available, short of forking out £89! for region 1 import!!

Okay perhaps the companies have an enormous back catalog of films. If a DVD or Bluray release requires too much work they should consider selling digital copies online.

reply

I agree. I would pay good money for a good proper release of this movie.
I own the 2005 version and it is fullscreen and the picture quality is below average.
Would be really nice to se Dan O'bannions version. But in the interview included on the special edition of The Return of the Living Dead he refers to the movie as "lost".
So i guess the copy of his version is gone...

reply

looks like its available on amazon now under the title 'the resurrected' not sure of the quality yet, haven't gotten it.

reply

I've got both releases and the quality is not good.
It only looks a bit better than a bad quality dvb transmission.
How about a nice blu-ray with Dan's directors cut...

reply

that's a shame, this movie needs better treatment

reply

I have the DVD as well; got it for $20 from a guy on a horror DVD collector's forum. Pretty cheap since it runs around $40 now. It went out of print really quickly I believe. The quality, like many have said, is subpar. Not terrible, but not great, and it's full frame for whatever reason.

reply

it's from a torrent that's why...you got scammed out of 20 bucks bro...they have really good rips online that are way better than dvd quality
