Well done!

This film really captures the tortured ambivalence of an individual with a broken soul; who can never feel whole; who doesn't feel as if she deserves her own happiness; who sabotages and undermines her own well being, and for whom relationships are a means to little more than a self-destructive end, in which love is the acid that burns, never the salve that heals.

Great post Skay. My wife and I bonded over this movie when we were first dating. She even taped it for me and wrapped in red construction paper. I watched it again today on Netflix and it breaks my heart every time. It's a masterpiece and so much more than just a movie.

I find it hard to sympathize with Alex much at all. Her inability to make up her mind punishes two other people. More than two if you count her mother or any friends she had. But just focusing on the two men who love her, what she does is awful.
