I HATE NICHOLAS CAGE!

BUT, I love this film. AND, I even like Cage in it. SO, I guess I don't hate him as much as I thought I did. ONLY ABOUT 98% WORTH!

ShamWow! You'll be saying wow!

I'm not quite as extreme as you, but I know what you're saying and tend to agree. I think it was because most of the roles I first saw him in, he was playing complete a-holes (Wild at Heart anyone?) and that does tend to colour your judgement. But here, he was a good, honest everyday kinda guy...

I believe he plays a professor in his next film, ' Knowing '. Haha, don't let me laugh too hard. I don't want to become ill.

Have you seen Raising Arizona or Moonstruck? These are two gems that relied on his solid acting chops to tell their stories. Of course, they were also pre-Leaving Las Vegas and it's a shame he hasn't been half the actor he was since the likes of Con Air and The Rock. He was never an action hero prior to those. He was a method actor who did loony things like pull out his own tooth and attack innocent strangers to experience pain, rage, etc.

I understand completely how you feel - I couldn't sit through ten minutes of GhostRider or Bangkok Danderous - but I predict he's due for a renaissance when he gets it together.

Please, if you haven't see Raising Arizona (Coen Bros) or Moonstruck (Cher got the Oscar for it), give them a chance. By the way, they're both comedies and he is intentionally hilarious, as opposed to his last several vehicles. Don't get me started on The Wicker Man. Although I admit, I agreed with Roger Ebert's review of Knowing - was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I also saw Duplicity the same weekend and it didn't have half the heart of Knowing.

Why wish for the moon when we can have the stars?

reply

He is a great actor but he doesn't always pick the best roles

reply

I'm pretty much right there with you, OP.

>I HATE NICHOLAS CAGE!

No you don't. Watch Wicker Man a couple times first (although it doesn't really have anything to do with Nicholas Cage, more with the director & writer).

reply

There's nothing wrong with Nicolas cage. He's only as good as the script he's working with. There's countless films(including Red Rock West) where he's just plain awesome.

reply

I love both Nic and this movie!

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

reply

Btw I assume you mean you hate his acting, not him.

I wonder that the OP didn't notice that Cage was overacting quite a bit whenever he raised his voice to a loud level -- it was always extra, extra loud.
