Really good movie, but....

i hated the music. It got on my nerves/was hard to listen to.

reply

It's traditional Chinese folk music in north-west China. I love it.

reply

Why? Are you Chinese?

If you are, do you eat rice often? lol. Seriously, i work with about 4 Asian women and they all have rice (-white rice, not brown rice, which is much better for you) at lunch almost every day with almost every meal. Asians love their rice. (Me too!)

reply

Yes, I'm Chinese. And, yes, eat rice almost every meal. :)

reply

I KNEW it! Hey-now!

Oh, by the way, i read your profile. It says, "I'm in China, burn in 1981."

It should read, "I'm in China, born in 1981." It's born, not burn.

Take care.

Oh god! Thank you! :D
It makes my face red....haha

"Asians love their rice. (Me too!)"

i actually liked the music
and the movie, which is ok (i gave it 7/10) but i liked "red sorghum" better, and "raise the red lantern" is still my fave zhang jimou (not sure abt spelling) movie

I had no idea it was a comedy and saw the innocence and the tragedy in the situation. An interesting overview between the differences of city life vs. country life and everyday living under communist regime.

China has probably changed much since this movie was made. It is a good social documentary of life during that time period. Perhaps this movie at one time was a parable. Don't make waves...Excellent movie. Well done really enjoyed the cinematography almost had a documentary feel about it.

reply

Yes: in a way it was a documentary. Only three professional actors were used; the street scenes were filmed with hidden cameras.
