George Strait is a bad actor

I pretty much just watched this movie for John Doe and while I was not disappointed with his performance, I couldn't believe that they couldn't find a better country star to play Dusty.

reply

John Doe is ten times the actor Strait is. Only people who love George's music would be delusional enough to think this movie is not a total waste of time.

reply

hey just so u know... im living proof that ur an idiot... i cant name but 1 george strait song and this is one of my favorite movies of all time

Then George Strait is a "friggin idiot" too. He knows this movie and his performance sucked. He's admitted such on more than one occastion. What the hell were you watching?

George Strait is not a bad actor. In the movie he showed how humble he is. How many proformers can both act and sing the way he does? Who else in history has 54 #1 hits?

Pure Country is my favorite George Strait movie too.

reply

i dont see you up there on that stage and it doesnt matter cause george strait has more number one hits than anyone in the world so he is obviously good at something

Just like Dusty said to Buddy. "Go on, get your ass outa' here". And to all those George Strait haters, I can say what Dusty said to Lula "I don't remember seeing you out there making those people scream"

I am not a big fan of country music but enjoyed this movie very much. Clearly George Strait is not an actor but he gives a very sincere performance and more importantly doesn't try to overact...which is certainly a risk when an inexperienced actor is asked to carry an entire movie. He has a great smile AND does his own horseback riding!

PS: I think Harley has one of the best punches I've ever seen in the movies. She tags Dusty/Wyatt with it after Lula tells her that he is married. Harley comes out of the ladies' room with blood in her eyes and nails him!

reply

damn right. i've been a george strait fan my entire life (literally) and i can admit he wasn't exactly paul newman. but this was still an entertaining movie. so those of you who can't get the real point of the movie, screw you

reply

George may not be the best actor in the world, but this movie was a top 10 hit! The moral of the story was what mattered most anyway!

reply

You are crazy. George Strait delivered a very sincere performance for this film considering that singing is his real talent. I thought he did a wonderful job!

reply

JOhn Doe's performance sucked. George Strait is a singer and it WAS made for HIS fans.

reply

I thought King George did great. It wasn't bad acting because it was barely acting at all. George Strait was pretty much playing himself. The only real stretch was for him to answer to a different name. I think George needs to do this movie again because it was the second time in his career he saved country music from Hollywood. If you look at country music today, it needs to be saved again.

George didn'tgo after the role....producers came and got him. I read that a producer/director or someone like that had been asking Strait to act in a movie for years. He just saw something in him. Sure, he isn't an academy wnning actor....but anyone who loves him really don't care. the movie was about, as someone said above, bringing country back to his roots. It was also for HIS fans. besides.....for it being a low budget film and starring a rookie actor....it still did pretty well at the box office.

I LOVED the movie. i remember seeing it for the 1st time. All I knew was that it was some sort of a country/maybe western. But, all my boyfriend (at the time) had to say was that it had George in it....and I was willing to watch. And, I fell in love. i had always loved me some George... but this just put me over the top. I got to see him do something other then sing (which is a pleasure in itself). I married that boyfriend a year or so later and our wedding song was "I cross my heart". Thanks George for giving me a song that described our love prefectly.

George Strait may not be the best actor, but he's much better than some actors I've seen. Will Ferrel for one. I refuse to waste money on his movies. I saw this movie for the first time about a month ago and seen it two more time since, it just seems to get better every time I see it. My wife and I were both crying during that last song (I Cross My Heart). Wish we could have had it played at our wedding. I hadn't seen the movie yet and I guess my fiance (now wife) didn't think of it.

reply

Guess what?

George Strait agrees with you.

He watched this on TV once and couldn't believe how terrible he was.

That's what a John Doe is in a legal term. However, that's not the case for this one. Run his name right here on imdb, you will find him, and he has a wife and three kids (whose last names are not Doe), so perhaps that's *gasp* not his real name.

Just curious, what makes someone who does not like a movie go to the board for that movie, and trash that movie......I know you are free to, but just wondered the reason.........Ahh, no life, got it........

Um, just an FYI the movie is an AUDIOBIOGRAPHY of George Straight, that means this movie is based on his life, who better actor about someones life than that person?

reply

This movie was not based on George's life. Other than the fact that he was a singer from Texas, it doesn't really have anything in common with his life. For one thing, in real life, George wasn't interested in country music until he joined a band in the Army in Hawai'i. I also highly doubt he walked away from a show like that, allbeit unintentional. And the bulk of the movie, his developing relationship with Harley, never happened. The whole story is fiction.

Oh my gosh, wildford, you are so right in one of your earlier posts. Today's country music is SO bad. I almost threw up watching the CMAs last year. I think we need more actual COUNTRY singers like George Strait, not ones like Trace Adkins.

And yeah, you guys are right, George Strait is not great, but this is still a good story. My main pet peeve with George is that he just holds guitars, and never plays them.

reply

george strait was in the movie cause it was written for him in mind, why else is all the music in the movie, his. hes a real cowboy, country singer, and a real person, he gave the movie what NO hollywood actor could...credibility. you dont have to like the individuals music to like the movie, what matters is the movie itself, the story, acting, etc. and this is a damn good movie. if theyd put in tom cruise, clint eastwood, brad pitt, or whoever else, the movied of not got the glory it got with georege in it, cause george adds realism to the movie cause he is as real as hollywood could ever be.

reply

Strait isn't an actor, and for that I think he gave a good performance

reply

I'll have to agree. I love George Strait the actor, and this movie wasn't all too bad, even though he isn't the greatest actor. But since I love his music I can easily live with an OK acting performance.
