Does a better quality version of the movie exist?

I'm really looking for two things here, hope someone knowledgeable about the 1990s action/sci-fi DTV movies this belong to might be able to help out...

1. Does a HD (or at least a higher resolution) version of the movie exist?
I curently own this movie on two formats; VHS, which is obviously VHS quality, and the Australian DVD release, which is also VHS quality.

However, seeing as this movie is my all time favorite guily pleasures (as well as ONE of my all time favorites period), that really isn't good enough in this age of Blu-ray and big screens.

Does anyone know if a higher resolution version of the movie exists, and if so, where one might get ahold of it?

2. Info about the prodiction of this movie, and its sequels.
All I know about the movies production is from a Starlog article, which isn't a whole lot. Anyone got any more trivia or knowledge?

It is showing in HD tonight on the Encore HD channel. Which means it's probably available in Encore Video on Demand.

Really?!?

So a HD version does exist then, thanks for letting me know!
Now to get a hold of. This of course is the trciky part, since I'm not based in the US, meaning both the Encore HD channel and Ondemand solution are off limits...
