How can people age so differently???

I mean, look at Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin!!! They both look absolutely stunning and attractive in this movie, and Meg Ryan to this day STILL looks terrific....but look at Alec Baldwin nowadays!! Isn't it tragic?? I mean, this guy was one of the best looking males ever, I thought. Today he's old and pathetic!!!! isn't it normally the male gender that ages better???
Would like to know how Meg Ryan does it.....whatever it is, I want it too!!!

reply

I'd say it was the other way around. The problem is Meg didn't let herself age.

reply

noveltylibrary, I'd have to agree with you...I'd say it's the other way around.

Meg Ryan has had terrible plastic surgery and is way too skinny. Although I used to love her. Divorce doesn't agree with her. Look how well Dennis is doing nowadays.

Alec may have put on weight. Who doesn't when they're 50? He still has the most handsome fast. And what a great actor with a wonderful sense of humor.

reply

Alec has aged naturally, putting on weight as many middle-aged men do, whereas sadly Meg (with her new lips) seems to be going down the horror-mask Faye Dunaway route. A real shame...

reply

Remember how gorgeous Faye was? Hard to believe she's the same person.

reply

Are you crazy? Alec is still a really good looking guy. My Mom met him last year and got her pic made with him and he still looks hot. It is on my myspace pics page, the link is on my profile.

Well, Christy, you certainly are entitled to your opinion (and I don't recall having said that he was totally unattractive nowadays.) I just think he has aged a great deal, and not to his advantage, either -- especially considering that he once was such an outstandingly dashing guy! But I guess the temptations leave their mark (I'd be the same, I'm sure).
Anyhow, he's a great actor and Meg Ryan is almost unreal-looking for her age!!

reply

quexl,

In your original post you say:

"but look at Alec Baldwin nowadays!! Isn't it tragic?? I mean, this guy was one of the best looking males ever, I thought. Today he's old and pathetic!!!"

And then to Christy you say:

"Well, Christy, you certainly are entitled to your opinion (and I don't recall having said that he was totally unattractive nowadays.)"

If you are going to be so judgmental, then at least be consistent and don't retract what you said.

You must be a stunningly attractive person yourself, so perhaps that clouds your perception of other people's looks. Why don't you dazzle us with your picture? I for one would be thrilled to look upon you.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

Some people take better care of themselves than others, which explains how people who age naturally can still age differently. I think cosmetic surgery is definitely a factor in this case though.

Maybe he likes to eat. Look at John Travolta. He said he is Italian and he loves to eat. And it was hell keeping up with all the exercise he had to do to stay all that slim. And as we all get older we do add on a few pounds, sag, whatever....... it is part of life. As long as you have a good attitude and try to stay healthy, what else matters, really?

reply

When I read this thread subject, I expected you to say the exact opposite. Alec Baldwin looks more or less the same. He gained weight, but I mean, I just saw him on TV this morning and watched this movie yesterday. He's the same. Meg Ryan on the other hand had some terrible plastic surgery. That's not something I usually notice, but on her, it's so obvious because her face has changed so drastically. I used to think Meg Ryan was the most beautiful woman, but now, I can't even look at her without wondering why she felt the need to change her features.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

reply

People age, that's life.

reply

Speaking of ages, I'll take this thread in a bit of a different direction. I was jarred to find cutie Patty Duke pay Meg Ryan's mom, as if she'd had the kid in junior high. Though her playing Alec Baldwin's mother-in-law was even more of a jolt, as she's only a dozen years older than him.

reply

My MIL is only about a dozen years older than I.

Agree... BIG TIME ! She's not so beautiful as she was

Guys are allowed to get fat. And bald. Sean Connery was still playing action roles in his 60s - AND getting girls 30 years younger than he was.

Women? They're harrassed if they're too skinny. They're harrassed if they're too fat. (Like, 5 pounds too fat.)

Is it any wonder women develop anorexia, and have those plastic surgeries, when they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I don't think it's just double standards at work here, I also think it's Meg Ryan obviously having "work" done. I honestly think if she allowed herself to age naturally, she wouldn't look so strange now.

no. That does not, as a rule, happen.

What happens is that some people, obsessed with their own image, harass THEMSELVES in this manner, then pursue all sorts of diets, regimens and surgeries that rob them of their health and youth.

If someone is harassing you because you are 5 pounds too thin or too large, you need to find a better class of people with whom to comport yourself.

Seriously.

Stanley Tucci aged the best
