Who funded it?

I'm an aspiring filmmaker and I came across 'Praying with Anger' while doing some research on different director's first features. The budget for the film was $750,000, a huge amount for a first feature for a filmmaker with no formal experience. I was wondering who funded the project and why, if anyone can actually answer that.

His parents funded it (they are both doctors) and I'm sure they wanted to support his film making career...

That's amazing. Both my parents talked me out of being a filmmaker. I mean not directly, but their attitudes discouraged me. Usually Indian parents would be too conservative to support a filmmaking career. That's why most Indian people go for medicine, law or business.

Are we sure the $750,000 figure is right?

That sounds awfully high, and I really can't imagine two doctor parents, however successful they are, lending that much to a child.

And I've seen clips of this movie and it doesn't even look close to a movie costing that much. It was a lot of hand-held documentary-style stuff.

Some parents are just freakin idiots. My father talked me out of every career I ever mentioned, discouraged me from attending college and refused to help with tuition.

Fortunately, that brand of stupidity isn't genetic.

That's sad. What did you end up doing?
