I think that this soundtrack is probably my absolute favourite from Hans Zimmer. I think that it's the only real reason that I will watch this movie. I just feel that it doesn't get the love it deserves.
I did read somewhere that doing this encouraged him to do the Lion King and the beginnings of The Rainmaker and Circle of Life do have a similar vibe.
