Is it me??? can sara gilbert act?

I was a medium-avid watcher of Roseanne growing up and I really liked this movie since it came out. I was watching the movie today and it dawned on me that it looks like Sara Gilbert isn't allowed to act.

Whatever she stars in her biker/ball buster/ comes out and she always speaks in monotone!
1: Roseanne: biker type/ball buster/sarcastic -- didn't buy her relationship with him for a microsecond! Monotone voice.

2: Poison ivy -- despite having money up the wazoo, she wears frumpy pilgrim dresses and looks like a librarian. Also, even her character has a little monologue on whether or not she's a lesbian... (maybe I am ... no, definitely not...) Really! Monotone voice again!

3: ER -- although I kind of stopped watching when Mark Greene died, I caught an episode or two with SG -- same thing again... biker/dyke with her monotone voice in complete perfection.

4: Simpsons... I poegged that character had her voice because of her monotone tone of voice!

I realize that there are more things she has worked on and been in, but they all seem the same role/type ... ball buster/biker-chick-style/sarcastic/ alternitive lifestyler...

Even Jodie Foster nailed mother roles down, without getting dykey in them! Rosie O'Donnell was perfect as Betty Rubble in the only mediochre Flinstones Movie.

Can Sara Gilbert actually act, if given the opportunity???

You're laborers, you're supposed to be laboring! That's what you get for not having an education!!

I think it's just the way her voice is. She seemed vulnerable and soft in Poison Ivy, a big step down from Darlene! (even though Darlene can stop being a hard ass, only briefly)I think she can act.
