Which One Are You?

I'm Maggie. Undoubtedly - and the older I get, the more I see it.

Sadly, I'm a mix between Maggie and Carol. I've been the loud, awkward American girl at a gathering of my boyfriend's closest friends. I knew it would take more than I could manage to be able to fit in with that group, and despite my efforts to tone it down I know I must have grated on everyone's nerves. But I'm also that clingy girl who's alternately despondently pessimistic and delusionally optimistic, so I relate to Maggie as well.

I know this makes me the worst person ever, but in some ways, I'm Brian (at least in the first part of the movie, before he and Sarah start having relationship problems). Mostly with the obnoxious, senseless jokes, and my laugh sounds just like his laugh, which is embarrassing. Also, I used to be bulimic like Carol, but I'm rehabilitated (read: fat) now. No, not fat, just a practical, healthy size.

Also, I really really love Stephen Fry. (Who doesn't?) If I met him I might go crazy, but probably not ripping-my-clothes-off crazy like Maggie, because I'm asexual.

I guess the closest I'd be to any of them is Andrew. In the sense that he is not sure where he wants to go in his life, not sure how to get there, unsure over his feelings for past girlfriends, his wit, and his occasional bitterness.

I love this movie. I just showed it to my boyfriend for the first time. As I rewatched Maggie in the beginning with the catsitter, I turned to my boyfriend and thanked him for saving me from becoming Maggie. I'd still be the one to go overboard with gifts and then flip out when I wasn't getting the reaction I wanted.

p.s. The boyfriend loved the movie too.

Hmmm...even though I'm a girl, I guess I kind of related mainly to Andrew. I also have some things in common with Maggie (her eccentricity, closeness to her pet, interest in books, general indifference towards fashion and whatnot...) And, while she wasn't among my favorite characters, there were small moments when an excited Carol acted sort of as I might.

There wasn't one person of whom I was able to say, "Yep, that one's definitely me in this crowd," as I often can, but I definitely liked some better than others. And I suppose Andrew & Maggie were the most similar to me.

I'm somewhere between Peter and Maggie. Possibly closer to Peter.

Peter because I am very calm, relaxed, and I tend to bring up all those unimportant quotes (like the Chesterton one) or small stories when I talk. I also hate seeing my friends fighting each other, so I try to force them to make peace with each other very often, and I find it hard to talk about personal issues, so I keep them for myself.

Maggie because I know what it is like to be dissatisfied with one's sex life / boyfriend-girlfriend relationships.
