Anyone else think Branagh spoilt the serious revelation scene?

In the scene when Peter shares his sad news, I think that Branagh's performance spoils what should have been a very serious and sad scene. It's like Andrew steals Peter's moment and makes it about him, yes I know he is drunk but the reaction is so over the top it makes me cringe.

I don't know if that was way Andrew was written, or if that is just how Branagh chose to play the scene, but for me it turns a very serious moment into a farce. There were so many funny scenes before this one, that this should have been played totally serious.

I really like this film, but have never liked this scene.
