Question about Gus

I know this is a movie and all, but when Gus was killed and came back to life, how come nobody noticed or questioned him being absent from duty? And where was his deputies in all of this? You figure him being the sheriff people would be questioning his state of mind (or lack of) and his deputies would be going "hey man, whats up with the boss?" In real life the county would take him off duty for acting wierd and put his second in command in charge. Not to mention nobody seemed to be questioning Gus about his wife and stepson's crash. Just saying.
