I mean it has everything.. child abuse, racist stuff, child molestation, it's just so over the top badass.

Halloween (1978) couldn't be made today either. High schoolers drinking out of a beer can

during and just post reagan era yeah i say it was easy to make. Obama era? i would think so.

Of course this movie could be made today WTF are you talking about, there are plenty recent albeit stupid horror films released that feature rape, incest themes all kinds of messed up S hit. This movie while I like it for childhood nostalgia is not that big of deal and there have been plenty of movies that pushed the envelope further than this long after its release.

This film is being adapted into a TV Movie. I don't know quite how they will deal with the subjects you mention but a remake has been announced.

Yeah, it probably could. Just think of it as 'Home Alone' but if written by Stephen King. In fact, the most surprising thing about this movie to me is that it's not based off a SK story.
