shareI wouldn't go as far as saying it stinks but it's definitely the worst of the bunch with the Jack Ryan character. It's shot beautifully but it's a very boring revenge movie. It could've been so much more. The only joy it gives me when watching it today is it reminds me of how great the early 90s were.

shareI watched Patriot Games for the first a few months ago and liked it quite a bit. In fact, I think it's the BEST of all the Jack Ryan films, so not sure what some of the people in this thread are on about.
The IRA are rarely touched on in film, so that felt fresh to me, and I appreciated that the action felt pretty grounded. Plus, Sean Bean's a great villain.
At the time, Hollywood was cranking out IRA films. I was actually getting sick of it. But that only lasted a year two. Blown Away is another great film about an Irish bomb terrorist.
I just finished Patriot Games about an hour ago. (I usually watch them in two or three parts cause i'm old and fat.)
What a remarkable film this is. Such taunt but low key action. It's a proper thriller. Slow burn. Very noir.
Interesting, I might have to look up Blown Away.
The only other movies that I can think of that involve the IRA are The Crying Game, The Devil's Own and that recent film with Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan, The Foreigner.

shareI thought the beginning was interesting, but as the movie went on I kind of lost I interest. I thought it had a lot of build up then the rest was kind of a let down.
shareI notice the Tom Clancy's books don't translate well on screen. I haven't seen Hunt for Red October, but its got 7.6 on IMDB, might check that one out.
