Jimmy Carter tried to do good things in Panama/Bush cime family is evil!

Do you agree ?

What did Jimmy Carter do that was so good for Panama? And what does the Bush family have ANYTHING to do with what happened?

reply

Well you will just have to watch the Oscar winning Documentary to have your questions answerd.
Why are you on the board of a documentary that you obviously haven't watched ?

I did watch it. I know it won Best documentary but awards don't mean crap. They awarded the Nobel PEACE Prize to Yasar Arafat when he was alive, and he was someone who wanted to kill all jews.

My point being is that Jimmy Carter didn't do a damn thing for that country other than give the Panama Canal back control to Panama...THAT's IT!!! As for the comment about the Bush family it was stupid. I am not in any sense a Bush supporter or hater but I am not stupid to think he didn't know what that "Pinapple Faced" leader was doing down there prior to the invasion. Hell our government is always doing deals with countries or people we never thought they would do deals with.

I base a lot of my knowlege off the whole deal down there based on what I saw during the 6 months I was stationed down there (from 1989 to 1990). The documentary LIED... YES LIED about many events that were said were caused by US troops and never bothered to explain anything about all the other events.

reply

Well sense you were stationed down there.
I can't argue with you.
May I ask what is was like because I am interested.
I am sorry I did not mean to insult nor offend you.
Maybe the documentary is wrong, I don't know.
Pleas share.

One of the coolest countries I have ever been to. As for the situation down there it was a little messed up long before the invasion ever kicked off. The worst part of the whole invasion was the fact that most of the Panamanian people down there just wanted to live a normal life. They didn't want to deal with all the turmoil between the US and Panamanian forces. Some of the turmoil was 4 Marines(I believe that number is correct) who were just outside of on the bases were in sense "kidnapped" by the Panamanian Defense Force. In response "we" (the US military) sent our Quick Reaction Force to detain one of their PDF people who was set up outside of Ft. Clayton. It was a "cat and mouse" game the whole time. It was to see who could flex their muscle bigger. I know from what I saw we "responded" to the actions of what they did.

Take a look at the footage of their presidential canidate a few months before the invasion. Noriegas Dignity Batallion beat the living hell out of the old guy. I STILL can see the images of what they did.

During the invasion US troops were blamed for walking down the streets of Corundu (really poor section of Panama City)setting the slums on fire. Once again this was not US troops but it was Noriegas loyalist (The Diginity Battalion). Most of the PDF didn't want to fight, they knew who they were up against. I will say because of some of the type of the munitions that were used stray rounds coould have very well been the cause of some of the fires. Like I have mentioned before bad things happen in war. You can only do so much to minimize the overall damage of things.

I remember reading some articles on how some of the members of the media were pissed at the US Military how they said we treated this war as a "Blackout". I wont say that that is how the US Military wanted to treat that or not because I am sure they wouldn't want any media covering and playing the public critic on how we were fighting. However I will say that "I" found out the invasion was to kick off 6 hours before we rolled out the front gate with our missions. Once the world found out about the whole thing, there were members of the media that wanted to get themselves right there in the mix of things. This cause a bit more stress on US soldiers. I am sure there were cases that things were said to the media because they were making it a little harder on US troops.

Wow. I can tell from what you are writting that you are telling the truth and I a grateful for the things you shared.
It all makes sense, especially about the black out and the Cat and Mouse game, the stray munitons potentially causing the fires, and the black out.
The Panamanian people just wanting to be left alone.

I can't believe Noriegas beat the living hell out of that old guy.
Actually I can and that is so beyond evil.
I'm sorry you had to see that, I worked in a detox unit when I was younger.
I watched the police nearly beat an old drunk guy to death.
It still bohters me when I think about it.

There is so much to think about in everything you said.
I am sorry if I offended you.
I simply wasn't there and was only going buy what I saw in the film.
I really appreciate your willingness to talk about what you encountered.
Do you mind if I share this post with a friend who is a histroy buff.

Thanks
Steve

First:
I was never offended by any of your comments, so there is no reason to apologise. Besides, even if you still wouldn't agree with me, that is okay too. We live in a country that allows us to have our own opinions and voice them out if we wish. Doesn't matter if people who don't like what happen down there (or over in Iraq) and have never been there... once again, we live in a country that values our differences. Hell our country is founded on being vocal and dissident, if we didn't then we would be under someone elses rule.

This is just MY story based on what I saw first hand and what I already knew.

Second:
I take this film for what it was... just a film that tells ONE side to the story and didn't take into consideration for getting all sides.

If your passionate about something.... ANYTHING really, take a stand and say what you feel. Not saying people will still won't argue with you or call you names, but then ... That is why we live in such great country.
