I am now a huge fan of Aileen- lol- now that "Monster" has come out I am all over everything about her- including documenteries + tv films- I would love to compare Jean Smart + Charlize's performance of how both played the role of Wuoros- even though Charlize would win by a landslide- does anyone have this taped off- or like is it going to be on TV anytime soon- maybe like the TRUE STORIES station- or myabe even LIFETIME!??

I think this Lee Wuornos was a killer, no doubt about it...and I think she knew what she was doing. I think at first it started by someone raping her and probably having been raped many times before, she finally reacted by killer the person who was raping her. But then I think she just took it too far, when her girlfriend kept wanting more and more. Aileen, I feel, was what she was.......a prositute who had learned to survive that way, having been molested all her life and learning that it's a living for some. So, when she met her friend, and she wanted more money, she knew how to get larger and larger sums of it. I think Lee was so in love with this woman, that she never turned her in, as she was surely an accomplice. And the woman who adopted her? Wow......what a nut case she was. She saw how to make a buck off this poor tortured soul, and did it. Her lawyer was unfit for a murder trial and ripped her off as well. All shows that if you have money, you can get all lawyered up and keep the police away for a long, long time. Look at O.J. Simpson......totally got away with murder because of who he was......same with the JonBenet Ramsey case......someone in that family did it, I feel, and it will possibly never come out. Both Patsy Ramsey and John, the dad, were "lawyered" up really good and had their own private lawyers........not just one between them. The whole family probably had their own lawyers.
So, when someone like Lee Wuornos breaks the law, there's nothing there to help, but lots there to try to make money on them.
I feel the Jean Smart/Park Overall movie was better than the Charlize Theron movie, but that's juts what I think. True, TV can only go so far, but in my estimation, it was better. There are several others........from the Selling of a serial Killer and another one as well. Just goes to show that when a person is tortured, is caught in a trap, sometimes they reacte in ways that are not supported by the public and they are sentenced to death......she was just a poor soul, with no way out from the beginning.

I tend to agree with some of your thoughts on Aileen. I read one of the first books that came out about her, and she had a very troubled childhood...was raped at a very young age, by family members. Also, quit school & was living on the streets as a teen. That is why I believe she turned to prostitution. IIRC (been so long since I read book), she had a baby that the family made her give up for adoption.
I also agree that the Jean Smart movie was better. When I watched Monster, it just gave me a sick-sad feeling. I guess I have mixed feelings about Aileen, kinda how you called her a 'poor tortured soul', as in she didn't really have a shot at a normal life from the beginning. I know there is no excuse for murder, but at the same time I wonder with all the men she had been with (some of them numerous times), why did she kill the ones she did?
As for that Ty woman, I've often wondered just how much she really did know...would bet a lot more than she told LE.
Oh well, just my two cents worth!

I think its a good film despite restraint in the scene because its a teleplay. shareyes amazon doesnt have this telefilm (The Jean Smart version)and I bought a copy from someone in the usa and i was fooled. the video and audio are even worse than those pirated dvd being sold in asia (I'm from the philippines)so i was wondering where the hell can i buy an original DVD of this? ebay has it but on VHS copy and its not new at all.
shareI didn't see a vhs of this on ebay. If there would be one, it would be in PAL version anyway. Some of the movies made in asia are fantastic. It's according to what company you go with. But this movie, I have it.
