This is a great movie..........

It is totally underated. I always wondered why a Scottish guy was working in a garage in the USA in the 50's though LOL!! But, this is a gem of a movie.

this movie actually took place in a small town in Ontario, Canada. BTW. :P

How is it weird?

A Scottish girl (my mom) managed to get over here somehow, back in the 40's. Seriously, this is the best, most personal, film from the Ray Sager/Ilana Frank/Peter Simpson producing group (the people who gave you Prom Night, etc). Great WTF cameos - Keir Dullea? Robbie Coltrane in a Canadian B-Movie? And a really sweet love story. So naturally, it bombed - they could only get screenings in the Northern Ontario drive-in circuit. See what happens when you stray from the regular formula? (PS It's not video - it was 35mm film).

stray from the regular formula? lol this is a story that has been told countless times times before, and one that certainly wasn't filmed in a fresh way(outside of maybe the dancing scene, which was surprisingly effective, nice use of the soundtrack).

Oh, and Corey Haim was weird casting, if only because when he opens his mouth to actually speak, the dialogue has the very real potential to completely falling flat. outside of maybe Lucas, the Haimster just isn't gonna give you a special performance, no matter how much I enjoyed(nay, still enjoy) some of his movies growing up. He's alright here when he's not speaking though.

that said, I still kind of enjoyed it. Go figure.
