Lennie TOO retarded

I like this movie but the main problem I had with it was the character of Lennie. I know he's supposed to be slow, but when I read the book I never pictured him as a lispy voiced down syndrome retard who sounds like a 5 year old boy.

I think Bill Fagerbakke (Dawber from Coach and Tom Cullen in the Stand) would have been the perfect Lennie. Gary Sinise however is perfectly cast as George.

Tears?

Agreed. If you haven't seen the 1981 version, you might want to check it out.

I think that Randy Quaid did the part a lot better (although I am a big John Malkovich fan and thought he did okay in this role)

Your doctor called with your colonoscopy results. Good news! They found your head!

Doesn't stand up to Lon Chaney's performance.

Whatever the case, I watched this and thought Lenny should have been locked up a long time ago. He was killing small animals and that is never good. Sure he didn't mean to do it, but still he was not safe to be around.

I thought there was only one mention of him having killed a puppy from petting it too hard. He just liked soft things.

Sorta makes it sound like he was stabbing them or lighting them on fire. He was overly affectionate, not malicious.

I thought it was just about right, I mean he keeps getting them into trouble having to leave town. How much less retarded did you want him to be? Enough to not get them in trouble?

reply

Yes, Bill Fagerbakke would have been an excellent choice. His performance in The Stand was very reminiscent of Lenny (except he never hurt anyone)
