Good, but sad movie.

I've never read the book, but I saw the movie. The two lead characters give great performances. Why wasn't John Malcovich atleast nominated for best performance? He does an amazing portrayal of a mentally challenged person. The ending is very sad..

SPOILER WARNING

The whole movie all Lennie talks about is how he wants to tend the rabbits... they're actually his last words. I felt so bad when George told him to look the other way so he can "almost see it"... Lennie looks so innocent as he turns to look and then looks back at George and looks back again, it makes you want to cry when he shoots him because he was just basically a child as far as his mindset goes. Poor guy.

No argument here, this really is not a happy movie at all.

I am always taken by the scene where the guy takes Curly's dog to shoot it... he's so saddened already, then you hear the gunshot off in the distance... horrible.

Not every film needs to be happy though. I enjoy it because it has one of the most emotionally charged endings I have ever came across.

Agreed. While it is sad on so many different levels, the black stable hand that the white men would not talk to or allow to sleep in their bunk; Candy being maimed and feeling useless because of his age, Candy's dog, Curly's wife feeling alone and of course George having to kill Lenny, the story makes you "feel" so many emotions which makes it a classic.

great movie...

great acting by Malkovich, Sinise and Walston
Casey Siemazsko (who I have not seen since '3 Oclock High' was really good in his role.

that ending will not leave me soon.

I also want to give compliments to Gary Sinise for his direction.

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

It was a sad movie. The people I felt more sorry about was Candy and the black stable guy. I was going on and on about them that a friend said I could think that they bought the place and George was heading to the farm. I didn't realize about the racism in the book. In my dreams tonight they will get there farm.

This is one of the saddest Movies/Books I have ever seen. It stays with you long after its over or you put down the book.
