Scenery

I was reading some reviews and one in particular caught my eye. It was from MLDinTN. The author commented about the scenery not being great. Duh! It was filmed in Nebraska, actually a few miles from where I grew up in the Sandhills. I even had friends used as extras in the film. Nebraska has a very placid landscape, and I can only imagine how drab it looked without fences and wind breaks during Cather's time. Nebraska is not a state celebrated for it's breath taking scenery, but it is essential to the story. I didn't enjoy the movie overall, but it really shows what Nebraska looks like.

Overall, the movie was about as interesting as watching alfalfa grow on the Nebraska plains.

I thought the scenery was beautiful. I'm a suburbanite and I think a prosperous farm, in late July, is the most beautiful sight I've ever seen. This was a story about decisions bringing consequences, good and bad. You get to see the payoff of decisions that were made early in life. I glanced over it during the first viewing. After all the family went to bed, I watched it from beginning to end on a 36" Sony flat screen CRT television and the color in the farm scenes were stunning.
