How Big of A role is Gary/Roger?

I have never seen the movie nor read the play, but i was casted as Gary and was wondering if I was a lead or not.

It's an ensemble production. I can't believe that you, as an actor, would even ask a question like that on a forum. WTF? Maybe you should... you know... read the script.... analyze the character and the text? Just a thought.

yeah its a pretty big part... then again they are all big parts except poppy, tim and seldson...

It's likely a school production if that's the case. Misuse of the word 'casted' might have been a clue. Try not to take everything so seriously maybe.

I am so confused. You were cast for a part in a play,...you must have auditioned for it,...but knew absolutely nothing about it?

Okay, a lot of casting calls give vague, ambiguous descriptions which sometimes turn out to be turns, but still you should have had SOME idea of what the character was like you were auditioning for. Or out of curiosity did you just audition for any part available (do they still "accept" that, btw? It's in rather poor taste). Or are you in a high school where everyone gets assigned a part or draw their part out of a hat and just makes a go of it? Maybe a junior high production?

Something more professional would have, -- to the best of my knowledge, -- a little more behind it. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

I also question the professionism of your casting director to cast someone in a part who has no idea what they're up against. Granted he must see you have some potential to pull it off, but to just cast you, *wham,* like that,....and no background?

I am definitely among the confused.

I didn't take away from the OP that this was some kind of professional production - it could be a high school play or a community theater performance; in which case, someone trying out may not know what the plays about or who the characters are and it's perfectly acceptable to try out for "anything".
I got the chance to do this show as part of a local community theater and it was a great experience. I had already been a fan after watching this movie, so I jumped at the chance to try out and got cast as Freddie/Phillip. We had 5 weeks to rehearse and it was great; I loved it and would do the show again in a heart beat - of course, it wasn't until about 6 months after the play ended that it finally sank in that I was on the stage with my pants around my ankles....

As to the OP, it's a fairly large role, as most of them are; though by the look of the date this post was made, I'd say you already know that. Hopefully you'll perhaps see this post again and tell us how the show went.

I misread the same thing :) Even after reading the original post, I was like, "Why does he care how big of an arse the guy is?"

I think Gary/Roger is the hardest role.
