5.8? Give me a break...

There's no way that this movie is anywhere near as poor as its score deems it to be. De Niro's comedic performance is unparalleled and underrated. If this had Coen or Scorsese's name attached to it, it would be praised by everyone...

Nope. That's pretty much the right score for this one. It's pretty dull, no matter whose name is attached. If this is a comedy, someone forgot to tell the director and actors.

5.8? That's crazy. This movie is nowhere near that good.

I think a 6 would be about right

Its right. The original was a lot better and had a much better atmosphere.

It wasn't that bad, maybe 6.5 or 7; quite entertaining but with some serious faults.

1. The way to tell an office romance is going on is the two people won't talk to each other, scarcely make eye contact. The idea that De Niro and Lange would flirt openly in front of her cuckolded husband is absurd.

2. In the original, Fabian's self-discovery - what a worthless human being he is and what a disgusting life he has led - comes right at the end as a climax, an added bitter twist to knowledge of imminent death. Here we see moments of self-knowledge here and there - finely portrayed by De Niro - but at the end he's back to his old self, full of it.

3. What the hell was the ending about - being prepared for Night and the City II? He should have died, a broken man, there in the alley. As it is, between his not being killed and not having a last moment of shame and despair, the film doesn't come to a climax at all - it just fades away.

Yeah, but Jessica Lang is smoking hot. Film gets +0.3 star just for that. And a Freddie Mercury rendition of The Great Pretender at the end gives another +0.2 for a total of 6.3.
