The Problem with this film....

Instead of going back to the original novel - which is virgin territory and could make a very compelling movie - it takes its inspiration from the 1951 film, a masterpiece the simply could never be bested, but which was an adaptation pretty much in name-only.

The problem with this film is simple. Martin Scorcese was the director on this film originally, then he turned it over to another director so he could turn to "Casino." De Niro was okay b/c he was the lead in "Casino," but Jessica Lange was the one left out to dry on NITC being a 2nd rate labor of a film that had been left in the dust. I love Sharon Stone, and her beauty is regarded among the best, and her Ginger was AMAZING, but I will always wonder if both De Niro and Jessica Lange left NITC along with Scorcese, and they both filmed "Casino." It would have DEFINITELY been the right follow up film after "Cape Fear" from the two. I totally feel Lange would have won Best Actress, then won again for "Blue Sky," then Meryl Streep wouldn't have run away from the pack as she has.
