Why does no one like David?

He's my fave character. I always see people list off there fave characrters and no one ever says David and a lot of people always say how annoyed they are by him. I dont think he's the hottest Newsies (but his is darn cute) and i think he's awesome. I also like his none violent approach toward the strike. I also see a lot of fanfics and i havnt seen one about Davey. Except one about him being gay with Denton

I love David lol!!!! :P He's awesome! He isn't my fave but I think he's cool. He's just the easiest to make fun of cause of the way he acts. But I love him.

And that shirt is sad lol. Poor Davey.

I like him a lot too, and he is adorable with his curly hair, dimples, blue eyes...anyway back to the topic. I think people don't talk about him as much because he's kind of...boring comparatively. He doesn't have any witty lines, he's not "cool" he's supposed to be stuffy, he's serious, shy, etc. And he's so obvious. When girls pick their favorites they don't usually go for the main characters (though Jack is just too hard to resist sometimes). I see a lot of love for Spot and such because they were second tier. And there's more to imagine when the character hasn't already been developed as completely. I think most people would agree that he's likable enough though. Just not squeal-worthy.

I agree. Likeable but no squeals. I have to say that myself, I love Kid Blink and Skittery and Specs. Ok and Dutchy. Sad I know, I have four favourites. But Blink the most.

Aww, I love David! He's such a cutie, you just wanna squish him. >3
But as it was said before, I think the reason why he's not a favorite is because he's the rare newsie that has a full background developed in the movie. It's just more fun for us to charactize the rest of them. =D

And who says Davey can't be attractive? The end of the movie tells me something differen, you know? ;)

reply

oh thank u!! lol im have such a mushy crush on david!! lol

reply

I thought David was a good character, but I didn't think the actor did a great job. Especially when next to the always great Christian Bale.

I gotta say, I rather liked the tight fit on that dirty white shirt he was wearing near the end of the movie. Rowr.

Actually, hormones aside...interesting transformation, that. When we first meet him, his clothing is very neat and clean and spotless. By the end of the movie, he's dressing just as ratty and ragged as the rest of them.

(Well, I suppose it also helped that he'd spent the entire night printing newspapers on an old dusty press, but still.)

I think I'm much more of a fan of the confident, end-of-the-movie Dave than I am of the mild, straight-laced Dave from the beginning. But I am a fan. :)

Ahh, kamisama! watashi no atama ni ono ga arimasu!

David was one of my favorites from the start!! I liked him back even when he didn't have a fanbase. Maybe because it's easier for me to relate to his personality too, and being the new kid in every group I'm in. Yeah, I think he's not as popular because he's a more quiet, careful character compared to other newsies and he's not considered the hottest. But he definitely showed the most character development and some pretty attractive changes towards the end and throughout the movie ;).

Does anyone else think David Moscow looks like the coach from Glee played by Matthew Morrison?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XNA9Pri9Nk I actually thought it was him at first!!!

reply

I didn't dislike Davey, but at the beginning of the movie, he was a bit of a wuss. But near the end, he grew a backbone and he was pretty hot in the last couple scenes (at the rally).

I did think Mr. Shue was David Moscow at first... I had to IMDb him just to be sure. I think they should do some "Newsies" on "Glee".

As some have pointed out above, David's the equivalent of the 'nice guy.'

He does break out of his shell over the course of the film, but he doesn't have as much of a bad-boy image as Jack or Spot.

He doesn't really have much in regards to leadership aspirations, but he is more than willing to take over when Jack seems to have deserted them, as well as when Denton just gives up on them.

Though we do see David attempt to be tough by trying to get Jack out of the Refuge, but even when he does this, Jack demands he not do so, as David has too much at stake (he is one of the main supports for his family- whereas Jack is the loner/rebel, and has nothing to lose).
