Watching this over, and Fred seems like a pretty crap nephew...

Whether he knew that Scrooge could see them playing, what on earth is he doing involving his own uncle/family member in such a horrible description? Scrooge isn't the most kindest, but for such an apparently merry and kind-hearted nephew, that was awfully cold-hearted to say about anyone, let alone his family.

EDIT: I must say I also teared up at over Tiny Tim and Scrooge in the graveyard  thank goodness for a happy ending, seriously. 

Fred had been taking crap from his uncle for years at that point, and from the looks of it, was trying to be polite and courteous around him. I don't think that one joke among friends who agreed with him on Scrooge was so bad, but of course he didn't know Scrooge would see it...

High fives and corporate anthems, nothing comes to mind.

He may have taken crap, but I still think it was a harsh joke to make about Scrooge. It doesn't make it feel better to me that he was laughing amongst his friends who were mocking his uncle and thinking Scrooge wasn't there to see it, if he was as good and kind as portrayed in the first scenes, I don't think he would have even have thought about describing his uncle like that and involving him in the game like that.

It's only a film, I know, but to me, it was harsh.

Let's see you put up with a surly, unfriendly, frustrating relative for years and years. Scrooge and Fred are basically among the last people in their they have left, yet the former always pushes the latter away like he's nothing. I'll bet you wouldn't handle it even half as graciously as Fred did. Let's see you do better and then you can judge Fred.

I thought he was ok. He went over to invite Scrooge to spend Christmas with him and Scrooge basically told him to F off. No wonder he made fun of him.
