Was the sequel ever made?
I remember when this first broadcast, there was talk of a sequel. Was it filmed? What happened to that project?

No, but there are sequels to the book it was based on - three in fact!
Mrs 'Arris goes to NY
Mrs 'Arris MP
and
Mrs 'Arris goes to Moscow
All are by Paul Gallico (who wrote many wonderful novels like this, as well as several others in different genres, including the orginal Poseidon Adventure!). They are all out of print but readily available on ebay/2nd hand bookstores :)
