Party Scene Question

I was not exactly sure about the party scene at the end of the movie when Mrs. Harris showcases her new dress...Was it real or her dream? I wasn't sure as she just comes home after being rejected and not able to get the dress and the Marquis arrives to drive her to the airport...?

It was definitely a dream, but it also adds some hope to the end of the film, as though she may possibly be able to get the dress one day. This ending is a lot more satisfactory compared to how the book ends. I probably shouldn't give away the ending to the book, just that I found it disappointing (it was lacking the "hope" element).

Well, I wasn't really sure if she was dreaming (as the characters reacted as they would) but then she has a rose tucked in the dress that she smells (and 'Hippo' gave her a rose at the party)...

The Marquis, and Mme Colbert, and even Natasha had reason to be very grateful to Mrs. Arris. I find it quite conceivable that a reception would be held at the House of Dior, with all the models there as well as Marquis Hippolyte.

The proof is simple. The rose that's in the dress, of course, but also Mrs. 'Arriss tells Vi that she has worn the dress. Mrs. 'Arris isn't a liar, therefore she has worn it, and probably at the party given in honor.

she was dreaming about the party that she did infact attend

She does get rejected by the really rude mean director but later when the Marquis talks to Dior about how rude the director was to her,Madame Colbert geets hired as director while the previous director gets demoted and the dress is delivered to the accountants house for Mrs 'Arris and also if you remember Natasha whispered something to Madam Colbert about how there was another way for her to get the dress past customs so she wouldn't have to pay for the customs fees.

And at the end,I too thought it was a fantasy sequence until she plucks the rose out of her dress that was given to her at the party. So she did indeed attend the party and was simply remembering it in her mind.

i don't remember the film very well, but in the book she certainly gets the dress. That's the point of the book really. So if she doesn't get it in the film, that is very strange.
