They are the parody of British hair metal bands stemming from Skott Snider's wild imagination.

Yeah it certainly seemed that way. I remember in 6th grade, on those paper bookcovers they used to make us put on our textbooks, I would write different band names on it and Afterbirth took up the most space. AHAHAHAHA YES!!!! Wow, I can't believe I'm responding 3 1/2 years later to this post.
