Takes place in the Amazon basin, but shot in Southern Mexico

I like the movie -- it's not great, but I like it -- however, I noticed they shot the film in the area of Catemaco, Veracruz, Mexico, not far from the southern Gulf of Mexico. I'm sure the producers chose this location because it was much cheaper to shoot there (being fairly close to civilization) and also because of the scenic mountains.

Still, it's supposed to be a film about the Amazon rain forest, not the Southern Gulf Coast region. Oh well; it looks good anyway.

Predator was another McTiernan which was filmed in Mexico but was supposed to be set deeper in South America.

I thought Mexico served as a fine location for this movie and it did not take me out of the movie in any way. This is Kind of like when Hollywood uses Canada to film movies set in the United States for budget related reasons.

The producers learned from money pits like "The Emerald Forest" that shoots in the actual Amazon area just cost too much money. Filming in Mexico was a very smart move.

Thanks. Even though the movie wasn't shot in the Amazon region, it's not too far Northeast (1700 miles) and the locations look great.
