Connery's great acting fooled me.

I long figured that he enjoyed making this movie. He did NOT. According to his biography, he hated every minute of it (the humidity, the food, the bugs, the boredom, etc) and left immediately after finishing his last scene.

Thank you for that post esskayess. Interesting.

Where was it filmed? It looks like a very remote location. But that may not be the case.

Your comments lead me to believe that maybe they did go to a very remote tropical place to make this film.

I can see how it would not be fun.

I bet Leonardo DiCaprio had a good time filming The Beach.

Most of it was filmed in a privately-owned nature reserve in Nanciyaga, Mexico.
Some scenes were filmed in Veracruz, Mexico.

According to one source I read, director John McTiernan shot the movie there after discovering that the Borneo rainforest where he'd shot "Predator" 5 years earlier had already vanished.

Sad.

PREMIERE MAGAZINE's February 1992 issue featured an entire cover story devoted to the making of this film, and it covered in great detail the less-than-desirable working conditions and Connery's contentious relationships with McTiernan and Bracco.

this is why he's one of the greatest actors of all time. he could have been pissed about it the whole time but he can put on a happy face and make you believe what you see within the movie.

Well Tony, nobody wants a war. If we can't do business why we'll just shake hands and that'll be it!
