Pau D'arco is the cure for cancer that this movie is about. It is inner tree bark from the Andes Mountains. A man named Josip Gabre cured himself of cancer using pau d'arco. He wrote a book titled How I Beat Cancer And How You Can Prevent It. Pau d'arco is also known as Lapacho and Taheebo. There are many cures for cancer, pau d'arco is one of them.
First, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! It's one of my all time favorites..
I agree with the posts that are shocked by it's low rating..
Ok now to the topic of this thread..
I know the "cure for cancer" was an integral plot point but the overall message I took away was the swift and permanent destruction of the rain-forests of our world- not the cancer cure.
We are losing our rain-forests at an alarming rate, have been for a couple of decades now, largely due to the actions of human beings. We have the ability to slow that destruction considerably, if not stop it completely and yet we do nothing..
We are erasing the rain-forests from the planet and we don't even know what all the consequences will be, in the end..
That is the message I took away from this film. And it was great entertainment. The setting was gorgeous, great acting and it had a bit of something for everyone.. Comedy, drama, a little romance and a message. All around a great film. IMO
People in life that are the happiest don't have the most, they make the most of what they have...
Actually the cure for cancer was the whole story, the biggest argument to keeping the rainforests is that every day we destroy 2 new species that we weren't aware of and that 99% of every medicine or lifechanging discovery we have made came from nature instead of a chemistry set.
The more damage we do to the rainforest the more potential cures for cancer we destroy without ever discovering in the first place.

Your best chance to positively impact the Amazon Rain Forest is to dramatically reduce the human population of Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. Have fun with that.
