Couldn't they do better than Corey Feldman?

Sorry to anybody that likes this guy but I just don't see him as the leading male type. I know this isn't exactly an A or even B movie, however, there had to be a few more actors several inches taller without the baby face or the stupid ego trip. Whoever told this guy he could act and was funny should be shot! With better casting for the lead this would have been a decent movie.

It wasn't suppose to be a big hit movie.Otherwise they should have worked on it a little harder. So since you like hate Corey who do you think they should have gotten to play his part?I thought he played it just fine I thought he was funny. It was just a kinda of dumb movie

Right, that's why I said I know this isn't exactly an A or even B movie. Who do I think could have played his part better? Easy question....Pauly Shore!

reply

I guess but he is sooo annoying.Thats a reason why I like Corey Feldmen he ain't so annoying.

Our tastes are the opposite then. I think Corey Feldmen is the annoying one.

reply

Yeah they are. But why not just have Andy Dick play it or something

Never heard of that guy. I think Pauly Shore is cool and could have done a great job playing this part. He has a style that's all his own, nothing copied about it.

reply

Well he is kinda like Pauly Shore.Yeah he does have his own style.

WELL AT THE TIME HE WAS DOING B-MOVIES,SO THEY WANTED SOMEONE KNOWN,AND HE WAS JUST AT THE TAIL END OF HIS CAREER,SO IT MADE SENSE.BASICALLY THIS WENT STRAIGHT TO VIDEO AS FAR AS I KNOW,SO THEY FIGURED THE TEENS WOULD WANT TO SEE IT WITH HIM IN IT.I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THIS WAS A FUNNY MOVIE,AND IT WAS MUCH BETTER THAN PART 3.

This was a all right movie because I saw it on USA Network back in the day when they would show this on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for movies and I even caught it on USA UP ALL NIGHT that use to be on Friday and Saturday nights on the weekend on the USA Network!

That was before NBC bought out the rights to USA Network and completely put everything on USA Network mainstream like it is now. I do not like what NBC has done to the USA Network since they took over it in the early 2000. This movie was ok to watch.

It would be something to watch having some cold beers and pizza on a Friday and Saturday night with some friends you know.

I think it was like the previous poster said, it was the tail end of Corey's career as far as starring credits are concerned, he was well known at the time and he had to be at least SOMEWHAT beleivable as a guy that the lead girl had dated or wanted to date. I know Corey isn't drop dead gorguess but he's better looking than Pauly Shore. So it had to be someone that was semi-ok looking but still a goober.

reply

I understand and know what you mean but Pauly Shore was pretty popular at that time in the 90's because I remember how he was a VJ on MTV and I would watch it when he hosted some of the videos and all.

Are you kidding? I thought it was perfect casting. Feldman may not have conventional leading male looks, but this is not a chick flick. I love the movies he’s in and think he’s a very charismatic guy in a goofy sort of way. Corey Haim and himself were two of the biggest teen movie actors during the eighties. Meatballs 4 was at a point when his Feldman’s career was declining due to drug problems, so they’re lucky to have cast him.

just because Pauly was FAMOUS.. didn't mean girls would %*#) HIM.. Sheesh.. He was a grating and annoying character.. but his films he did CALLED that character, so he fit right in.. BUT.. the character, or at least as far as we know, would NOT be a fit for the character of Ricky Wade.. a guy who obviously had a way with the ladies... now Feldman? I don't quite see him as the laid back almost surfer dude type.. but.. I'd say Feldman over Shore..

he DOES have kind of a massive personality and ego.. which worked well for the character... and give the guy credit, he is actually (or was) a pretty good actor. He just never really transitioned successfully to the more adult roles.. but its a common problem in the profession coming to child actors.

I know exactly on what you are saying about women not wanting to do anything with Pauly. The thing is if you look at some of the most famous people a lot of them are not really that good looking at all, but for some reason the women would love to hook up with them. I think a lot of it has to do with fame and money to be honest with you. Yes Corey Feldman had the look and the right attitude to play the ladies man in Meatballs 4, but like you said once he became an adult it was harder for him to get into good roles.

It is sad to see that happen, but it is the truth though about childhood actors. I am surprised from the time that they are very young they do not learn to do well as an adult actor. I remember when Gary Coleman was on Different Strokes and the films he was making. I loved watching a lot of those movies that they did. It is sad that a lot of these childhood actors do not learn to pick better roles to remain big and famous in Hollywood.

The Feldog was perfect in this film. Nobody could have played Ricky Wade better.

"Charismatic ladies man" is a tough role to cast in a film marketed towards males. On the one hand, they have to be credibly attractive to females. On the other hand, they can't be so dreamy that they draw jealous derision from the male audience.

Corey Feldman was the worst of both worlds. He had a Tiger Beat resume to alienate male audiences. Yet his small stature & boyish appearance made him an implausible leading man.

Val Kilmer pulled off the role in Real Genius. He was self-aware enough that his smug delivery couldn't be serious.

Also see Matt Dillon in Wild Things. I think that worked because of his goofy work in There's Somethign About Mary.

Jamie Foxx was another good one. He was a blast in Booty Call. His constant sparring with Vivica Fox made him relatable.

The more I think about it, a great sense of humor matters. Feldman could be funny in Stand By Me & Goonies. But those both had strong ensemble casts. Feldman alone couldn't carry a comedy.
