Made on a buget of $7000, weather you knew that or not is irrelivent. Just from watching the film you can see that this was made on a small budget carried alone by some very very good directing. Besides all that, this is Rodriguezs' first film, do you really think that Antonio Banderas would lend himself to a (at the time) nobody directors first outting? He stared in desperado, and if you've seen that film you will know that that film had a large budget and backing of a big studio.
If by some chance he had been friends with him he may have worked for free.
After all, he wasn't as big an actor back then as he is now.
did you lot not see desperado? i know its a follow on but it is pretty much the same film. infact, the first pub he goes into in El mariachi looks very familiar.
