William Lustig and Larry Cohen actually intended to make a fourth film, Maniac Cop: The Resurrection, but they couldn't get the necessary finance. The plot would have had a rookie police officer receiving Matt Cordell's old badge number, and gradually becoming possessed by Cordell's spirit.

An unrelated movie called The Force later used the same idea.

In addition, Lustig and Cohen once joked during an interview in Fangoria about making Maniac Cop vs Uncle Sam, in which Cordell would have battled against Sam Harper, the zombie villain in Lustig's movie Uncle Sam.

Have you seen The Force?

No. Have only read reviews.

I wouldn't mind a fourth film since I loved part 3. Hope they make it someday.

I would definitly see it as Im a fan of the first two. However I dont like part 3 too much, and feel another might just be seriously low budget and pointless.

If they went back to the basics of the original and got a decent funding, they might be able to get something out of it.

But I would be really surprised to see Maniac Cop 4, best bet is wait for a remake which seems to be the trend at the moment.

William Lustig and/or Larry Cohen have made a couple of other films that could be considered spin-offs from the Maniac Cop series;

The Ambulance (1990) is written, produced and directed by Cohen. Just like the Maniac Cop films, it takes a branch of the the emergency services that people traditionally find reassuring, and turns it into a threat.

Uncle Sam (1997) is directed by Lustig, written and produced by Cohen. Just as the Maniac Cop movies feature a law enforcement zombie seeking revenge, Uncle Sam centres on a military zombie punishing those considered 'un-American.'

They should definately make a Maniac Cop 4. They would have to have Robert Z'Dar back though. The movie wouldn't be the same without his huge face lol.

R.I.P. Uncle Steve

The Bruce Willis movie Striking Distance (1993) is practically an uncredited remake of the first Maniac Cop film. Can't say much more without revealing massive spoilers for both movies, but their storylines contain many similarities.
