This movie SUCKED!

It was a horrible story. My six-year-old cousin could have written a better script! It was not the fault of Ellen Barkin or Jack Nicholson,it was the fault of the people who wrote (I'm being kind) the script!AWFUL!On Season two of the Sopranos,Christopher talks about how in screenwriting the script has to have an arc. This didn't have an arc,a square,a rectangle...any damn thing.

I'll be honest. I am a huge Jack Nicholson fan but this was certainly not one of his better films. I haven't really been tempted to watch it more than twice since I bought it two years ago.

I can't believe actors of the caliber of Nicholson and Barkin could have agreed to appear in such garbage. You should try to sell your copy on ebay.... or maybe give it away.

I rented this movie out coz im a huge Ellen Barkin fan but I found this movie to be terrible. The plot was not entirly clear and seemed a bit confusing but I must say Ellen Barkin put in one sensational performance and I mean an oscar worthy one. She was the only character I actually cared about. I'm surprised she worked around such a horrible screenplay. Just for that she deserved an oscar. Stereotype roles are usually hard for actors but she was an natural. Truly underrated she is.

I'm not about to get rid of my copy of this movie or sell it because Jack's in it and I have everything he's in, rubbish or not (and believe me, he's been in some stinkers, through no fault of his own). But I have to say, if I did watch this movie again, it would be just to watch Jack looking good, not for the plot, which is wonderfully disastrous.

did you like nicholson in the movie 'the pledge'? i thought that movie was good, although the end ruined it, that last scene of him, in particular. i am a fan of his and i can't believe some of the horrible movies he has accepted roles in, in comparison to the wonderful roles he has played. i was surprised to see that this movie had only one topic post in the message boards. yes this movie (man trouble) seems horrible, i am watching it now and trying to find some redeeming qualities, all the actors are wonderful, just something seems wrong with it all. well, i am not a acreenwriter or a director, so i really am not in a position to say anything in that regard, but as a viewer, i do not see any quality from where i expected. oh well!

I saw it on HBO. Figured if Jack was in it, it couldn't be too bad. I was wrong. Terrible movie!

reply

OK, I can't argue, except that I don't blame the writer. It appeared to me that revisions were made, Jack starts out sleazy with a slutty helper he tells his wife is his niece, and evolves over time to be a hero at the last minute -- I think too many cooks may have spoiled the broth. Still, I loved watching Ellen Barkin in this and Beverly D'Angelo, Michael McKean (I'm not a Jack fan.)

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!

Just saw this movie last night for the first time.
Yes, it is bad.

I think that they tried to make it badly on purpose. As I watched everything from the bad cinematography, to the bad writing, to the godawful wardrobes that they made jack wear. It was a big FU on all levels.

bad movies are good in their own way.

Glad I'm not the only one who couldn't see the point to this film. On the other hand, I was mildly amused, so I can't call it a total failure. Jack, Ellen and Bob have certainly made much better films, but this one maintained my interest enough for me to give it 6/10 stars.

I was actually IN this movie as one of the singers. You would not BELIEVE what a BITCH Ellen Barkin was.

reply

No, you're right. I don't believe Ellen Barkin is a bitch.

This is a Bob Rafelson film... Do your homework...

Oh.
