I love Lucy

How did they make that part of the film? I have never seen I lve Lucy, was the main character the real one? Did they just cut up a real show and put the two characters in there in the place of the real guests?
Anyone know?
Thanks

There was an I Love Lucy episode titled Cuban Pals, in which Ricky's old friends (Maria and Carlos) from Cuba pay him a visit. They used footage from that episode and intercut it with footage of Assante and Banderas. They simply replaced the old friends from Cuba with Assante and Banderas. The intercutting works quite well in that scene.

They also replaced the Desi Arnaz scenes with footage of Desi Arnaz, Jr. It was an impressive effect, though, getting the film to look like an old I Love Lucy.

If you've ever seen the Weezer music video for "Buddy Holly" where they're playing in the diner from Happy Days, it's basically the same idea - new footage and old footage put together.

Desi Arnaz Jr. really played role of his father very well in this movie.

When they showed the group watching "I Love Lucy" the intro was the big heart with their names in the middle. That intro did not exist during the initial run of the show.It was created for the syndication package.

"Thanks Elliott, for being a cut above the rest!"

Good call. I never noticed that goof especially since TV Land restored the original animated opening.
