Movie vs Soundtrack

To me, I got a different impression of this movie than most. Perhaps it is because I integrate the soundtrack into the quality of the movie. Purely in my opinion, it sets the mood of the movie as much if not more than the dialogue or plot, and thus is more fundamental to the movie.

Based upon this level of analysis, I loved the movie. Ignoring all the criticism, it struck one of those kind of tones with me as to make it memorable. No career-defining performances, just a good feel.

I would agree, enjoyed the very good movie especially
the very fine performances by Armand Assante and
Antonio Banderas. It also struck me as having set
the tone of the storyline as well. I highly
recommend the soundtrack to anyone who likes the
music and I became an instant fan of mambo, the
cd has great cuban and mambo tunes indicative of
the 50's era. Be sure to get the newer version
from 2000 as the original cd from 1992 is out
of print. Enjoy the music!

The original soundtrack struck out because it did not have Armand Assante singing Beautiful Maria of My Soul as he did in the movie. That isn't a movie soundtrack. I don't know if the 2000 version corrected that mistake.

No this current soundrack to "The Mambo Kings" features
three versions of "Beautiful Maria Of My Soul." The
english one done by Los Lobos and two versions in
spanish both sung by Antonio Banderas. These also
feature the Mambo All-Stars with one spanish track
sung by both Compay Segundo & Antonio Banderas. I
like this updated soundtrack as it is remastered
with much improved sound quality and more tracks
over the original release. Check it out and you
may like it.

Thank you and I am sure it is very good but not as good as when Armand sings it. I still don't understand how it is a soundtrack when it is Armand who sings the whole song in the movie.

reply

Thank you again but I won't care for it without the original version sung by Armand Assante. Can you see the difference?

reply

Yes, I think the music label could have and should have
included his version on the soundtrack.

Was it really Assante who sang Beautiful Maria in the film?

I just rewatched this since I was a kid and loved the soundtrack. I don't understand why they won't have the version with Armand Assante, I loved his version!

reply

I only knew the one version. How did you see it with Assante? DVD?

reply

I first saw it on tv as a kid, today I saw it via yify. I'm looking for the ost of the film though, thinking of converting yt video to mp3.

This movie made me want to learn the Mambo.
So I did. And I like it.
