Four Weddings...: nod to Polanski? :)

In Four Weddings and a Funeral Kirstin Scott Thomas is secretly in love with Hugh Grant. They'll never marry, but still, to her they could/should be a couple. Was this a nod to Polanski's Bitter Moon, where Grant and Scott Thomas are married, yet not very happily?? :) :) Scott Thomas' character is even called Fiona in both films!

I've read that Mike Newell, the director of Four Weddings, finally made his mind up to have Hugh Grant in the role of Charles after seeing him as Nigel in Bitter Moon, so you could be somewhat right...
