Twin Peaks
Anyone else get Twin Peaks vibes from the soundtrack? Sounds like Vangelis was channelling Badalamenti at times.
Not to mention certain other Lynchian tropes throughout the film. Also reminded me at times of Betty Blue.

The New Year's party = The Black Lodge, where Hugh Grant's character will be tested and manipulated.
"Never can say goodbye" sung by Jimmy Sommerville/Communards replaces Jimmy Scott singing "Sycamore Trees" (they both have... unusual voices), as the protagonist arrives.
Actually it's probably not Sommerville singing in this version, it's the same falsetto style though.
shareSince Polanski was a big influence on Lynch (Love them both) no surprise there.
